The first Chinese Week Festival in Seychelles was organized by Le Meridien Barbarons from May 17-22, 2010 with the support of the Chinese Embassy, the Seychelles Tourism Board, and Le Meridien Chongqing Nan’an in China. The main objectives of the festival were to build awareness of the Chinese culture and food and promote the hotel and Seychelles to the Chinese market.

This followed the recent effort launched by the President of the Seychelles, Mr. James Michel, and by the head of marketing for the Seychelles Tourism Board, Alain St. Ange, who visited China to increase awareness of Seychelles in China and work to open Seychelles to Chinese visitors.

A week of discovery of the Chinese culture, music, fashion, paintings, literature, and arts were among all the activities organized in the Le Meridien Barbarons Hotel’s lobby. As one would expect in any Chinese festival, food plays a big part in the event, and the Seychelles Resort was lucky to have Master Chinese Chef Qin Dan from Le Meridien Chongqing Nan’an fly to Seychelles to oversee the food preparations. The reputed Chinese chef was part of the major attraction during the evenings, where he demonstrated his skills and talents, offering the most delicious authentic Chinese cuisine.

A spectacular gala dinner in an atmosphere of festivities marked the end of this festival on Saturday, May 22, 2010. More than 400 persons attended this evening. All those present had the opportunity to discover a full Chinese buffet, the talents of local and international Chinese artists, and the beauty of the Chinese dress through a colorful fashion show. It was a very great success for the Le Meridien Barbarons Hotel. Mr. Pierre Delplace, the resort’s general manager, has already confirmed that this activity will become part of his annual list of activities. “We are committed to being recognized as being the Seychelles Resort providing diversity in entertainment,” Pierre Delplace said at the closure of the 2010 Chine Week in Seychelles.
