The festival has seen an increase in support from Europe with online training, master classes, and women-focused events being funded by the European Union Delegation to Tanzania Itä-Afrikassa.
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Entwicklung (GIZ) has revived its support of the awards at ZIFF. The event will have both online and onset platforms, commonly known as hybrid.
These co-supportive platforms mean bigger audiences and reach as well as an opportunity to redefine the festival. The theme of the festival this year is “Sharing Our Heritage.” Tanzania has 7 World Heritage Sites nominated by UNESCO including Stone Town.
Through the festival webinar, a panel of women filmmakers from Europe and Africa will engage with a global audience to exchange best practices in Europe and Africa in general and discuss the status of women’s representation in film both in front of and behind the camera.
Five European women filmmakers purposely selected will join 5 African women filmmakers selected by ZIFF to form a discussion panel to exchange views on the subject.
The panelists will discuss their work environments and conditions that support the development of greater women representation and voices in and through film and film festivals. A global audience of at least 50 participants is expected.
