Keskiviikkona 4. kesäkuuta 2014 matkailu-, ympäristö- ja kulttuuriministeri Hon. Mamahele Radebe Lesothon kuningaskunnan hallituksen puolesta ja Venäjän liittotasavallan suurlähettiläs, hänen ylhäisyytensä Mihail Petrakov allekirjoittivat yhteisymmärryspöytäkirjan, joka perustuu molemminpuoliseen etuun kahdenvälisen yhteistyön laajentamiseksi ja syventämiseksi kulttuurin ja taiteen alalla.
In signing the MoU, both the Minister and the Ambassador noted that, it had always been a desire for both countries to have formalized agreements in the areas of arts and culture. They noted that the Agreement will facilitate deepened friendship, greater Cooperation and common development. The Agreement would also renew and deepen traditional friendships between the two countries, noting that, despite the geographical distance, Russia and Lesotho enjoy a time-honored friendship.
Lesotho and Russia both boast rich heritage resources, beautiful scenery, unique civilization and friendly people. The signing of the Corporation Agreement was therefore viewed as an occasion to consolidate and strengthen bilateral political relations, enhance the friendly exchanges between the Governments, promote economic cooperation and intensify exchanges in tourism, culture and education.
The Federal Republic of Russia has a long history of rich cultural heritage in the areas of literature, philosophy, classical music, ballet, architecture and cinema, which all have a considerable potential to influence the world cultures. Lesotho therefore desires to benefit from this experience. Lesotho’s priorities are also on projects related to cultural heritage, development of cultural industries and centers, historic sites and other culturally related events. In the global and fast-changing creative environment, establishing such centers will help in preserving and developing local traditions in Lesotho. In this regard, Lesotho can tap into Russia’s experience and expertise.
